We often speak of forging intellectual foundations, as if made of steel or iron, but theirs has been like quicksilver, dynamic, fluid and unpredictable.

They have met this challenge, emerging as a new kind of graduate: resilient, adaptive, and technologically adept – but also committed to activism, equity and empathy.

These graduates and their dissertations point to a new horizon, better than the one we have left. We look forward with anticipation to see what they will create.

In History of Art, dissertations are the capstone project, epitomising the culmination of a four—or in the case of MA (Hons) Fine Art, five—years of personal and academic growth and learning. The breadth and variety of this year’s dissertations reflects the diverse and global curriculum that is a hallmark of History of Art at the University of Edinburgh.

Along with their History of Art dissertation, the MA (Hons) Fine Art graduates complete their five-year programme here with a Graduate Show exhibition and a final year dissertation in History of Art. To see their exhibitions, please visit the Art section of this website.
