The soil in patch 1 has been heavily eroded and compacted by frequent previous mining operations. It is important to conserve the soil in the post-restoration phase. By introducing pioneering native tree species (Oak ,Ash , Alm)  and collecting healthy species sown in the existing adjacent woods(Malls Mire Woodland) , a stable ecological conservation structure can be created. The introduction of willows improve biodiversity and the economic benefits of harvesting.
