"Everything is both simpler than we can imagine and more complicated than we can conceive"
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
'nu' is designed focussing on one of the main primary principals of Brutalist architecture - the naked construction. The pieces within this collection are designed in a way that on first glance everything looks very simple but when you look closer there are levels of complexity that are difficult to comprehend.
My work combines contrasting themes such as abstract structures, minimalist compositions and finding beauty in unexpected aspects of buildings. These inspirations are used to create minimalist sculptures that are also pieces of jewellery. The theme of extreme contrast is continued throughout the design stages and into the making process, the concrete structural inspiration is a stark contrast to the design intent of being environmentally conscious. This collection is designed around the idea of façade vs structural simplicity and complete transparency of construction.
I design with the intention of being environmentally conscious. I utilise ethically, environmentally friendly and reclaimed precious metals. I design with the idea of durability in mind.
