Artist Statement

The MFA Glass has progressed and challenged my understanding of glass making and personal aesthetics. I have developed a range of processes that combine foam glass with different glass and ceramic techniques such as hot glass casting, glass blowing, Pate de Verre, slip casting and hand building ceramic bodies.

Foam glass is a porous volatile material, which is made when a foaming agent is added to a powdered glass and slowly fired, aerating the glass.

My approach to glass is scientific, as making foam glass requires detailed and precise knowledge for repeatable material outcomes, yet dissident and transgressive, challenging traditional perceptions of glass as a shiny, transparent material.

My approach to materials is dissident and unconventional, actively breaking the rules of restrictive traditional glass and ceramic fabrication techniques.
