Bio

Jonathan is a filmmaker based in Edinburgh, Scotland, and studied at the Edinburgh College of Arts.

His work would be best described as eerie and atmospheric. It’s concerned with themes of environmentalism and anthropocentrism, taking inspiration from the works of Scott Barley and Mark Fisher. Jonathan hopes to make cosmic horror more accessible to a younger audience through working within the genres of fantasy and coming-of-age. He is also inspired by folklore and the natural environment of rural Scotland and hopes to contribute to Scotland's growing film industry.

After learning that filmmaking was a viable area of study only after leaving Secondary school, Jonathan hopes to make filmmaking accessible in all schools in Scotland and supports film education taught in schools as a curricular subject.

My Project - SMALL

Synopsis - Deep in the forest, a shy, young boy comes across a mysterious village composed of buildings no larger than the size of his hands. As a storm fast approaches, the village is vulnerable and he must find a way to protect it.

Director Statement - I wanted to combine the themes of the weird and the eerie with the coming-of-age genre to explore the fantasy elements from an adolescent perspective. I also wanted the audience to engage with the film and feel a sense of child-like awe and wonder while maintaining a haunting essence.
