Bio

Through sculpture I explore connections between humans and material. I am interested in our psychological responses to the physical world and the ability of material to evoke emotion, memory and sensation. Reciprocally, my work considers how our psychological concerns are extended through material. I am fascinated by how human subjectivity manifests in what we make, and how we make and remake our physical selves.

My current work focuses on the materiality of the body. I am interested in the body as a mediating vessel between the self and environment and how vulnerability to our environment effects the way we materialise our bodies. In these works, I try to encapsulate the contemporary moment of transition and uncertainty surrounding the body. The forms and materials I use reflect the enmeshing of the discrete and the interconnected, the human and non-human, technological and corporeal conceptions of the body brought about by advanced capitalism and anthropocentrism. My sculptures reference defensive adaptions in nature, militaristic and trans-human technologies and the enfleshed body as ways of opening up questions about how we experience embodiment and how this has changed in response to new relationships between self and environment.
