Project Description

In my search for the cause of my avoidance, I found that my family of origin had a great impact on me, which is the cause and the crux of my avoidance.

I plan to use this work to explore control and avoidance in the parent-child relationship.

- Show the pathological symbiotic relationship that parents form with their children through control

- An exploration of control and avoidance behaviours in parent-child relationships

- Try to suggest some suggestions to heal the child who feels the control and keeps avoiding

Installation

The installation symbolises the 'boat' sailing away with its curiosity and dreams of the outside world, but always held by a thread from 'home' and contained within a limited ocean.

The 'boat' is often used as a metaphor for a child away from home, sailing away from its harbour of anchorage.

The house, as the spatial carrier of the family, can represent 'home'. The relationship between the two is the parent-child relationship.

Book Design

I designed a hand-made book. In this book, I discuss control and avoidance behaviour in parent-child relationships, including an indictment and critique of controlling behaviour, an explanation of avoidance behaviour and some advice for people.

On the characters CONTROL, the wound is superimposed on the character, indicating control and being harmed

On the character AVOID, the character just avoids the wound, indicating avoidance of being harmed by evasion.

Two threads run from the front and back covers of the book, in the direction of the house, through the small hole at the top of each page and hold the boat on the middle page so that it is stuck in the page and difficult to move.

Book Binding

First cut out a 10cm x 3mm rectangular cut-out in the middle of each sheet.

Then sandwich the stiffened wire in the middle of each page.

Then thread the red wire through the two short sides of the rectangular cut-out, around the wire and out again, pulling it tight. Repeat on each page.

Finally, secure the wire to the ends of the back cover.

Illustrations

I designed a set of three-dimensional illustrations with the intention of giving people something to look at that might be usable for a solution and feel healed.

The scene is a dining room. People often share the mood of the day with family members over dinner. The dining room serves as an object space that hosts family communication and conversation.

The scene is the mirror. People are always looking at themselves and observing themselves in front of a mirror. I would like to tell audiences: Be accepting of yourself. Your existence is already valuable.

The scene is a storage room. The locked boxes symbolise people's private space that is not to be invaded. The keys are kept by the boat.

This scene is a bay window. Opening the window will bring in new air and an open view. A symbol of welcoming a new life.

Handcrafts

This is a small boat that I am going to give to the audience as a small gift for the exhibition. I plan to fold some boats with different materials of paper. And put a small light at the end of the boat.

The idea is that everyone can be whatever they want to be, and there is a light of home behind them all the time.
