Project description

Illustration for Science Communication

Science illustration can break down complex topics into clear understandable images. My work, with simple lines and bright colour gets at the heart of a subject. And by finding or expressing the stories behind the science I am able to communicate the humour, excitement, and wonder within fact.

I work in non-fiction picture books and comics.

Notorious Nudibrachs

This delightful picture book takes you through the wonders of nudibranchs! Learn just what makes these slugs notorious across the seven seas.

Wooly Menace

These works of wool art, compiled with text as an art book, tell the story of sheep farming in Scotland and its environmental impact. As well as providing a glimpse at solutions and possibilities  for new pastoral practices in the future.

Line

Line is a 8.5m concertina finger labyrinth. It’s fabric, because I want users to enjoy the tactility of it. To twist the pages without breaking them. And I invite the user to make their own line of the other side of the concertina as yet another way to make contact with the work.

Zines and Comics

While the comic I worked most extensively on this year was “Science!” my weekly webcomic, I have also been exploring succinct methods of communication through one-page comics and zines. These branch a little further than my science-based non-fiction works, delving into fiction and autobiography.
