Since starting my BA in Fine Art in 2015, I have explored the prevalent changes in our environment and landscapes through mediums of film, sound and sculpture. In developing my illustration practice at ECA, I have continued to research deeper into the meaning of our relationships with nature and the stories within them. I tend to work in layers of materials, starting with a texture or painted background and then drawing in inks and watercolour, before making finishing touches digitally.

Our Place started as an exploration of the relationships we form with our landscapes. Do our familiar landscapes change and grow with us? How are our memories captured within the objects and landmarks we find? This picture book maps out my memories on the beach at my grandparents’ house. Whilst, the place we knew has been gently eroded, our memories of it have not. The beach has become the extra member within our family and like an old and tarnished home video, it seems to flicker between real-life moments and fiction.
