I am a Northern Irish stop-motion animator and model maker, with a passion for portraying natural environments through use of texture, colour and attention to detail. I love experimenting with different materials to create naturalistic aesthetics. Creating emotion is vital in my work in order to connect with the viewer, whether it's through filmic atmosphere or conveying expression through puppets. I enjoy working with my hands, creating unique and personal works of art.
Edge of Grief explores the emotions surrounding the grieving process, personified in a journey through a forest. The film uses stop motion, combining textile-based models with natural materials. The majority of the film features a large handmade set, with other scenes shot on a multi-plane.
The ever-changing yet repetitive emotions are explored along the journey where filmic atmosphere and sound shifts mood, leaving the viewer with an individual interpretation and experience.
I made this film in response to the death of a very close friend. The love I have for her inspires me to create art in her memory and I hope my film can provide a sense of comfort to others experiencing similar feelings.
