The core of my work is to tell a story using images instead of words. I specialize in using vibrant color schemes and fluid lines to create graphic effects. The style of my work leans towards children's illustration, with picture books and comics being my main forms of expression. Life and humanities are the subjects I often explore.I also like to explore delicate emotional and moody subjects, and pencil textures are an area I excel in.
The inspiration for this project came from my own real-life experience as I like to wear hats when I go out, but it is very windy in Edinburgh. I once walked down the street and my hat was blown away, so I imagined this, where it was blown, who it met, what it went through, and where it ended up. I wanted to draw a picture book around a hat that had been blown away. I thought about where I wanted this story to take place. After living in Edinburgh for a while I liked the environment and was impressed with some of the landmarks and the atmosphere of the city, so the urban environment of Edinburgh became a good vehicle for the story.
Today is an era where consumerism is prevalent and many people, especially young people in their teens to 20s, have not yet formed mature values and are easily induced by these external factors to spend excessively and impulsively, thus causing financial indebtedness and even affecting their psyche. Including myself will be unable to restrain because of various promotional and herding reasons. But I don't want to make this topic too heavy, so I want to adopt a cute little cartoon form to express this theme. At present, I have designed two small black humor stories, both with exaggerated endings, which I want to use to achieve the effect that the picture is interesting and the theme has a warning.
This is a project based on material testing. I will inevitably have negative emotions when studying alone in a foreign country. I used my own negative emotions as a starting point and listed three types of negative emotions: loneliness, anxiety, and confusion. I hope that this project will help me and more people to face up to negative emotions and realize that they are reasonable for everyone.
