Interior space is not just a background board for human activities; it can also act as a mediator in interpersonal communication, promoting and guiding the generation and development of relationships.
Interior designers need to pay attention to the needs and feelings of users and those associated with the space. But in many cases, the user does not really know what he needs, so the interior designer not only has the ability to solve problems, but also needs to focus on the ability to find and ask questions. We need to constantly ask and question interior design through our thinking. By accepting feedback, interior design is in a constant process of updating rather than a perfect result. In the same way, interior design cannot exist independently; it needs to connect and interact with various disciplines.
Background to Project
Research shows that in college life, students value their sense of social participation. But in addition to online social media, it is difficult for students to break the inherent social circle and make more new friends. At the same time, less use of the school’s public facilities (such as cafes, libraries, and study rooms) will reduce their sense of belonging to the campus. An open and inclusive public offline social space enables students to share interests, participate in public activities, discover like-minded friends, build relationships with friends and peers, and gain informal peer support, thereby increasing social participation and a sense of belonging to the school.
Theme
My theme is to assume the mediating role in the interpersonal communication of college students through space, to promote and guide the generation and development of social relations. I hope to create an extracurricular public social platform for students to manage independently through the form of “indoor blocks.” This provides an environment for them to participate in social activities, find like-minded new friends, and expand their social circle. The exhibition hall, cafe, and public garden are reserved as the main functional areas for holding events.
The interior design is in a constant process of updating. I hope that this space is not a one-off for students but a daily offline social platform for them, which can be revisited repeatedly just like the daily use of online social media. Through the update of activities and the changeability of functions, the space is updated, and visitors are constantly attracted.
