Danielle Rothmann is a visual artist working primarily within sculpture. At its core, her work investigates and presents relationships. That includes material and making relationships, relationships of the familial and kin, and relationships within environments. She has developed several families of creatures, or 'Critters', which explore and interact with their surrounding environments.
Material research forms a large part of Dani's process, this material investigation significantly shaping the form of her outcome. Dani researches historical heat-based material processes which have a long histories; often trying to learn a new skill or craft in the process. This recent body of work brings two dissimilar materials together as glass is blown over metal to create one unified form. Dani aims to draw fluid and animated bodies from the brittle materials of glass and metal through blacksmithing and glassblowing. The repetitive process of heating and cooling material slowly bringing life into the static materials.
