A separation of orange and green which is united through an interaction of space.
Imogen's folding screen and paintings are all made via the same process: the soak/stain method. Unstretched canvas is stained horizontally on the floor and on both sides (recto/verso). It is then stretched/mounted onto board or a canvas stretcher. The materiality of her work is furthered by the incorporation of 'floor matter' which is an accumulation of flaky layers of floor board paint that adhere to the canvas surface when soaked and prised off the floor. It evokes a sense of time and location as to where and how the painting was made.
Colour is integral to Imogen's process. Her palette consists of two dominants: orange and green. The pinnacle of interaction between these two contrasting colours is shown in Colour Divider due to each side of the screen (recto/verso) showcasing each dominant colour respectively. One has to move circularly around the folding screen to view all sides adding a further sense of movement and alternate viewing points.
