Exploring the contrasts and connections between traditional and punk influences. Layers and textures hold fascinating stories as they pass through centuries with technology helping to communicate new discoveries and build bridges between the past and the present. Natural materials are soaked in ink, ripped, and burned to create garments resembling historical artefacts whilst presented in punk aesthetic form.
By incorporating sound into my work, it creates a strong contrast between the natural and the digital. However, the process of layering materials is similar to the making of music. The instruments, effects and vocals create harmonious, rich ensembles. Every pause, change in pitch and volume impacts a piece of music and just like building layers of fabrics, these have to work together and form bonds. Every, texture, colour and detail brings its own uniqueness for creating these expressive statements.
The natural elements co-existing with digital sound have enhanced the work performatively and creates an immersive space, bringing narratives to life. Being mindful of the types of materials and natural ingredients that are used contributes to giving the garments their own identity, exploring emotional and spiritual themes.
