Bio

I’m very passionate about queer, gaming and nerd culture. I have been immersed in it all my life which makes me very interested in creating content for it and being in its circles. Over this year my focus has been on developing a body of work rooted firmly in fantasy settings, building characters and worlds, but also creating a visual language for promoting myself.

My work is characterised by its warm, traditional fantasy feel. Though my illustrative style is adaptable, the use of a digital medium, soft brushes and a focus on finer details and texture are consistent throughout. Inclusivity is something I enjoy focusing on, as I believe that a more diverse future is vital for the gaming industry as seen in my dissertation about the importance of representation of gender and sexuality, and its impact on how we play games.

Illustrations are painted digitally and spliced with gouache textures.

The redesign was intended to create a deck of cards that's as visually exciting as it is fun to play with. After researching different options I decided it would be themed around toxicity, as the game’s key focus is rooting out threats from within I enjoyed the slightly different take on showing it. It ended up inspiring the colour pallet, with the lime green taken from radioactive imagery and the wine red from plums, which are toxic to dogs. Motifs of fruit and veg that are poisonous to dogs are present across the cards related to the townsfolk, whereas the werewolf related cards feature more of the toxic ooze, creating a visual divide between the two teams.

Though I’d experimented with animation a lot over the summer in the form of simple GIFs this project was my first attempt at a larger scale animation. It features a short section of dialogue from one of my Dungeons and Dragons games.

The intent along with practising animation was to explore character movement and personality, and my ability to show character relationships through body language and interaction in motion.

Caspar, Cats and Anxiety

Illustrations are painted with acrylic paint then assembled digitally.

The concept for these illustrations came from exploratory research, knowing I wanted my project to be related to cats in some way- I just started researching, finding the theme of anxiety and then the inspiration for comics along the way.

The work was therapeutic in the end, allowing me to get stuck into a topic I love (cats) and that is important to my body of work as well as explore and work through the anxiety I live with through my illustrations.

The illustrations feature Caspar (one of my Dungeons & Dragons characters) and Mr Soup (Her familiar) as a focus, as both have featured throughout my works over the past year, and have become recurring characters in my overall branding. The comics are intended to become a long running series over time exploring living with anxiety in a more hopeful way.
