I began to draw when I was young. Because I was quite boisterous when I was little (It’s hard to imagine now!), my father hoped painting could cultivate me to be calmer (Well that works well:D). From the age of 5 to 11, I took drawing classes every Saturday. However, I did not develop much interest in painting at that time, probably because my dad asked me to practice drawing strictly. When I was 12 years old, I moved from Wuhan to Beijing. For a long time, I gradually got away from painting and focused more on other disciplines such as mathematics and chemistry. I participated in both IGCSE and A-Level art exams, from which I woke up my passion for art and painting. I once got into fashion design, but I always felt something about that was not suitable for me, although I always admired fashion. Later, I found out that painting is what have been companied me since the very beginning, it is the purest thing. I then chose to study illustration for university and enjoy drawing more and more every day.

During my past years living in Edinburgh, I was so surprised that a city could looks so theatricality. So during my past years living in the city, I enthusiastically did lots of sketches of the city: streets, buildings, people etc., trying to memorize every moments of living here. As my undergrad study coming to the final year, facing the unknown possibility of the future, a question coming to my mind: if I left Edinburgh, what would I miss most? So I looked through my past drawings of Edinburgh and designed a souvenir for the city.

This project is about an interesting story behind the Battle of Monte Cassino (a rocky hill near southeast of Rome, Italy), 1944, which happened during WWII. There was an unusual bear soldier who attended the battle named "Wojtek". The inspiration was came from a YouTube video which is about how Polish soldiers adopted the bear cub, how did Wojtek growing up and becoming an official soldier who serving in 22nd Artillery Supply Company, and finally settled in Edinburgh Zoo after war. This project aim to tell the story of Wojtek and the friendship between the bear and Polish soldiers.
For this project, I designed a poster for a Chinese action-romance movie called “Painted Skin”. The movie is an adaptation from a short story in “Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio” (“Liaozhai Zhiyi”), tells the story of Duwei Wang rescued a stunning and alluring woman, who is indeed a nine-tailed fox spirit covered by human skin named Xiao Wei, and the love and complicate story between fairy and human.
This picture book is for my grandpa, and all children and parents. The main theme is about losing someone, however, realize if that’s fine because the little girl will always remember her grandpa and her grandpa will always be with her. I depicted the life in Wuhan - my hometown, the warmth of the memory of those innocent time, and my grandpa’s love for me during my grew up. Also my wishes that grandpa is now in a better place.
The little girl finally found her grandpa in her dream, this is how I depict my wish for my grandpa ended up in a better place. I painted 4 pages as finals, 2 of them to show the lively market and street, 2 of them to show the dreamy, colourful and mystery adventure.
This project is to make a 4 pages comic from an excerpt of the article "Good-bye, Jack!" by Jack London. To me, it is quite a sarcastic novel so I decide to use bright colour and sharp contrast drawing style to illustrate the story.
