Flowing and diving are two main themes of this project.
Flowing is for the restoration of the River Clyde. The starting point is the fluvial islands in the estuary area of the river. These islands have disappeared or accreted to the mainland due to anthropogenic modification during the recent centuries' industrialization and urbanization process. The islands are the indicator of the general health of the fluvial environment and the energy of natural flowing water systems. The project aims to reactivate the natural flow regime of the river and form new islands in the river so that the river can be naturalized and restored.
Diving is for creating an uncommon experience to expand people's perception and inspire people's awareness to rethink the relationship between human beings and nature. I focused on the Newshot Island as the detail design field. Legacies of the past industry - the shipwrecks - are located here. The idea of diving derives from a special wreck of a diving bell barge which was used to dredge the river to improve its navigability in the last two centuries. The diving experience is an echo of industrial history. However, in the new era, the diving device will no longer be used to impose modifications to the river but to connect people with the river through deep perceptions.
